What began as a single day of volunteerism in 2009 has grown into a global movement—and this year, Maplewood and Newark felt that impact in a big way.

Across Essex County, KW Mid‑Town Direct agents stepped away from their desks and into hands‑on service projects that strengthened neighborhoods, supported families, and invested in long‑term community health.

25 Bags of Food Collected for Our Lady of Sorrows Food Pantry

In Maplewood, agents rallied neighbors and clients to support the Our Lady of Sorrows Food Pantry, collecting 25 bags of food to help local families facing food insecurity. The pantry, which serves residents throughout the area, relies heavily on community donations—making the RED Day contribution especially meaningful.

Volunteers sorted, packed, and delivered the food directly to the pantry, ensuring it reached families quickly.

Painting Three Rooms at St. Joe’s for the Recreation YMCA @ St. Joseph’s Parish

Another team spent the day at St. Joseph’s Parish in Maplewood, where they painted three rooms. The refreshed spaces will support youth programs, after‑school activities, and community gatherings.

The project reflects RED Day’s core mission: improving the places where people learn, grow, and connect.

15 Trees Planted in Newark’s Ironbound Neighborhood

Meanwhile, in Newark’s Ironbound section, volunteers partnered with the Newark Green Team to plant 15 new trees at 41–99 Avenue L. The effort was coordinated with Timisha Woods, Keller Williams Referral Agent and Tree Community Engagement Coordinator, who leads ongoing greening initiatives throughout the city.

The new trees will help improve air quality, add shade, and contribute to long‑term environmental health in one of Newark’s most densely populated neighborhoods.
