New Additions & Familiar Traditions

by Michelle Kean, Community Outreach Coordinator
Where Books Bring People Together
Book lovers have plenty to look forward to in October, with three book groups (Chatham Chapters, Suspenseful Saturdays and the Library Book Group) offering opportunities to discover great reads and share ideas with fellow readers. Whether you’re a longtime book club regular or have been thinking about joining one, October is a great time to get involved.
NEW!
We are thrilled to have a new book discussion group, Reading Through History where attendees explore: What makes historical fiction memorable? Where does history end and imagination begin?

On October 1st, we are honored to have Kenyon College professor and award-winning author David Lynn and Chatham Library Foundation Board Trustee and avid bibliophile John Adams lead a discussion about the best seller, Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. Next up will be Ragtime on November 12. Historical fiction helps us understand living experiences of the past beyond what we may have learned in history classes.
From Stress to Success: Navigating College Admissions
For families navigating the college journey, our college admissions program will offer practical guidance on how to navigate the process, helping students and parents better understand what can sometimes feel overwhelming. Join us for this conveniently online session on October 21 at 7:30 pm.

KIDS: Eerie, Crafty & Curious!
Our youngest patrons can enjoy the Library’s full lineup of storytimes and STEAM enrichment programs, with plenty of opportunities to create, experiment, and explore. We can’t wait for the much-loved community tradition: our Halloween Parade, a favorite fall event for children and families.
ADULTS: Spooky Sips & Creepy Crafts
Adults can get into the Halloween spirit, too, with some special seasonal programs, including Halloween-themed cocktails and pumpkin carving. Adults only, please! Whether you’re feeling creative, festive, or just ready for a little spooky-season fun, we have you covered.
Thank You
Before we close the book on September, we want to thank you for connecting with us during Suicide Prevention Month. Conversations about mental health matter, and we’re committed to keeping them going, not just this month, but throughout the year.
Through our programming, resources, and welcoming spaces, we’ll continue to support the mental health and well-being of our community. We care deeply about the issues that affect all of us, and we’re grateful to be part of a community that shows up, listens, and cares.
October at the Library will bring our community together in all kinds of ways and we look forward to seeing you!
