Men's Cross Country Team Eyes Repeated Success

After winning the division in 2009, the 2010 team has its sights set on the state sectional meet.

Coming off a very strong season, the Chatham men's cross country team is looking to repeat that success in 2010.

"We feel like we have a strong team, we feel like we're going to have a good season," said head coach Patrick Barry. "(Last year) we won the Independence Division and we were in the state sectional meet, (we finished in) second place."

The team didn't lose many seniors from last year's division championship squad, so there's no reason to think that they will falter this season.

However, if the Cougars are to make noise in 2010, three seniors in particular must roar.

"We lost two key seniors from last year," Barry said. "The (current) seniors are Charlie Baker, Michael Kaiser and Steven Bangs."

Barry has made the goals for the season very clear, the only thing left for the team to do is run like they are capable of running.

"We want to win the Independence Division again and win the state sectional meet,"Barry said.

If there's one meet that the team is looking forward to, it's the season opener on September 10 at 6 p.m.

"The very first meet is the Randolph Invitational," said Barry.
