We are pleased to announce the Spring 2017 AstroFun schedule. This 4 part series is part of our STEMFridays for students in grades 3-8, and will again be led by Susan McNevin, Physical Chemist, PhD and avid astronomer. The program is designed to encourage children to make their own discoveries while having fun. We will meet at Chatham Middle School, 480 Main Street, Chatham, from 6 - 7:30 pm for lecture, demo and pizza. Following the session we will have the opportunity to go to the Drew University Observatory in Madison to view the ever changing night sky with the help of Drew University students, Michael Clancy and Ashley Bloodgood. Sessions are independent and you can register for one ore more at the link below.

Schedule:
Friday, February 10
Relative Size and Distances: Demonstration of size/distance from Moon to the Galaxies. Solar and Lunar Eclipses. Meteors, Asteroids and Comets. What they are made of? Where do they come from? How are we learning about them?

Friday, March 10
Optics: Demonstration bending light with prisms, convex/concave mirrors/ lens. Learn how binoculars and telescopes work.
Telescopes in Space: Learn about the NASA telescopes in space. What light wavelengths do they detect? What are they looking for?

Friday, April 21
Black Holes, Dark Matter/Energy: We will act out matter in the universe acting under the influence of invisible Dark Matter and Dark Energy. We will act out what would happen if one went through a Black Hole. International Space Station (ISS): Learn about a day on the ISS. Where will you sleep? What will you eat? What jobs will you do? What recreation will you have? How will you clean yourself and go to the bathroom?

Friday, May 12
Straw Rocket ship Competition- This is a competition from NASA/ Jet Propulsion Lab which will teach design and observation fundamentals. Paper rockets launched from straws will be made.
