New Business: For Owners, Pascarella Brothers Deli Fulfills a Longtime Dream
Establishment on Watchung Avenue will serve sandwiches, hot foods, prepared meals.
Gino Pascarella is a Chatham native and runs the recreational football program for fifth through eighth graders. He has also always wanted to own his very own business with his brother, Anthony, who is 10 years older than he is.
"Growing up, I always worked with him," Gino Pascarella said.
Now he does. The Pascarellas opened their new sandwich spot, Pascarella Brothers Deli, two weeks ago, and serve sandwiches with imported meats and cheeses at their store at 34 Watchung Ave. The sandwiches come in all forms—wraps, paninis and subs are all on the menu. There are also some family favorites on the menu.

"I've been making Sloppy Joes my whole life," said Anthony, who has worked at and owned various delis around the area. "Not to toot my own horn, but they're pretty good."
A recent Zoning Board of Adjustment variance will soon allow the brothers to install an oven and grill so they can cook freshly prepared meals, such as omelets and freshly prepared food directly at the restaurant. They also will install seating inside.

The space was previously occupied by Italian specialty store Tutti a Tavola.
Gino said the two will also offer a variety of gluten-free options. Anthony's son, Nico, has celiac disease, which makes him unable to digest gluten.
"That's why we wanted to go off on our own," Gino said.
Plans for a gluten-free chicken parmesan and gluten-free chicken nuggets are in the mix.
The Pascarellas also hope to cater to the lunchtime crowd. It is in an industrial area, near lots of businesses, and they say people need a place to eat lunch quickly.
Gino said the two have been working long hours as they've started things up. But he's enjoying every minute of it.
"I've always wanted to do this," he said, looking at Anthony. "I've always wanted to work with him."
