New Mayor, Councilmembers As Chatham Borough Reorganizes

CHATHAM, NJ - Everything old was a new again as a current councilmember ascended to mayor and a former councilman returned to fill his seat on the dais as Chatham Borough reset for 2020 on Tuesday night.

Irene Treloar and Karen Koronkiewicz took their first oaths of office, joining Jocelyn Mathiasen, Carolyn Dempsey and Robert A. Weber. The evening also saw Mathiasen chosen as Council President and the return of former councilman Len Resto, who was tapped to fill a vacancy left by Thaddeus J. Kobylarz's move to mayor.

"I am honored to have been appointed to the Borough Council to complete the unexpired term of former Council Member Thad Kobylarz who was sworn in a Mayor. I am looking forward to serving the residents of Chatham as I have in the past," Resto told Patch. "Even if I had not been selected, it would have been an honor to have even been considered. Mayor Kobylarz has a talented team with diverse backgrounds and I am proud to be part of the team.”

Kobylarz was sworn in by Madison Mayor Robert Conley. The Madison governing body congratulated all officials in Chatham Borough noting that they were looking forward to working closely with them on their many shared service agreements, including the Madison Chatham Joint Meeting – the longest running shared service in New Jersey history.
