Pedestrian Struck By Car, Leaves Scene for Hospital

Chatham resident hits man, who is later found at Overlook.

Police and other emergency workers hunted for a pedestrian who was struck by a car driven by a Chatham resident on Millburn Avenue Monday night before locating him at Overlook Hospital.

The 32-year-old Springfield man was treated and released from the Summit hospital after the crash, according to police.

Police said the pedestrian could not be located at the scene near Campbell Road at just after 7 p.m. Police, firefighters and Millburn-Short Hills First Aid Squad EMTs, Springfield police and a county K-9 team searched the area. He was later located at the hospital, police said, after they learned someone drove him there. The pedestrian was treated and released.

The driver in the crash, Diana W. Danitz, 51, of Chatham, reported striking the pedestrian. Police said her windshield was smashed. She was issued summonses for careless driving and lighted headlamps required.
