Post Office Plaza Is Another Reason to Vote for Dems Tomorrow
Choose Dempsey and Mathiasen for Borough Council
Chatham Borough residents have already been given many compelling reasons to vote for the two
Democratic candidates this year. If anyone still needs more, consider the following:
Next year the Borough Council will be deciding what to do with Post Office Plaza. Republican Council Member Vicky Fife, a realtor , has had to recuse herself from this matter
due to the fact that her husband, a realtor himself, had some dealings with the developer who bought part of this parcel of land. (This situation cost taxpayers money in legal fees.) Our Republican mayor, Bruce Harris, had to recuse himself as well because his partner is an active realtor in town.
If Dempsey and Mathiasen win, three of the five votes on this very important decision will be
held by people who are outside the “inner circle” which I believe will mean a more measured, reasonable, and less blindly pro-developer decision. Jocelyn is an expert at negotiating contracts, and Carolyn is a Historic Preservation Commissioner who noted at the debate that the Borough needs to be willing to walk away if the deal isn’t good enough. If you want truly smart development that will "keep Chatham Chatham" then vote to put these two smart women on the Chatham Borough Council.
