Research Just Out: Low Back Pain Eased by Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

A study in the March 2016 Journal of the American Medical Association reports that MBSR produced improvement for lower back pain.

An article in Reuters on March 22, 2016 details a study just published in the Journal of the American Medical Association comparing usual care for lower back pain with Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and CBT (a form of therapy). The study showed that MBSR was more effective at treating chronic lower back pain in a group of adults than their usual care.

The study included follow up at 26 weeks and 52 weeks; the study reports that these findings for MBSR persisted with little change at 52 weeks. The study is available on the website of JAMA (click on this sentence).
