Support of Americans for Muslims

This article is about the impression of a Muslim who has recently come to United States after the Executive Order of President Trump.

Support of Americans for Muslims

In this Christian majority American society, Muslims feel victimized and alone. This view could be held by someone unaware of the day to day social relations in the United States.
As soon as the Executive Order (regarding the travel ban) of President Trump was in the news, thousands of protesters gathered around the airports in support of their fellow Muslims. It was overwhelming excitement and astonishment that I saw where people irrespective of their religious beliefs stood up in favor of their Muslim brothers and sisters. This is America, where people from all nations and religions live together with love and compassion.
Arriving from Pakistan a few months ago and being a Muslim, it was heartbreaking news for me and my family. But after a little while thousands of people from all walks of life were on the roads shouting slogans against this EO. It was very surprising because I did not anticipate such a heartfelt response where people left their homes and their commitments just to show their support.
Not only the ordinary people but the executives and administrative people like mayors and senators stood out and voiced their opinions on the matter. As a result of their efforts and support, the travelers who were previously detained at the airports were finally able to get out and meet their families.
Moreover, people who could not come out of their homes did not just sit idle. They called Muslims at their homes and mosques assuring them of their support. This was a humanitarian effort irrespective of beliefs and their origin which was displayed by the American people after this shocking and frightening news. Thousands were standing side by side in support of their brothers and sisters. This is the American society; which accepts you, whoever you are and wherever you are from.
Some of my friends and relatives have told me that they have received numerous calls and messages of support. People are coming to mosques to show their solidarity and brotherhood. All of this is very inspiring to me and as a Muslim I will always support my fellow Christians, Jews, and brothers and sisters from all different faiths, beliefs and backgrounds, in their difficult times. This is what Islam has taught me and that is exactly what the American people portrayed at this critical moment.
