SUV Slams Into Bus In Chatham Borough

The driver of the Honda Pilot was hospitalized after the crash, police said.

CHATHAM, NJ - A Honda Pilot crossed lanes and slammed into an NJ Transit bus shortly after 8:30 a.m. Monday, according to the Chatham Borough Police Department.

According to authorities, Officers Kyle Beasley and Michael Permison responded to the
intersection of Main Street and Hillside Avenue to investigate a motor vehicle crash
between a NJ Transit bus and a Honda Pilot.

Police said based off initial interviews it appears that the bus, traveling east on Main Street, pulled to the side of the road to discharge a passenger when the accident occured.

The driver of the Honda Pilot, travelling west bound on Main Street, crossed over into the east bound lane of travel and struck the bus, police said. The driver of the Honda was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Their identity and patient status were not released.

The bus driver, who was the only person on the bus at the time of the crash, was not injured, police said. Both vehicles were removed from the scene and the crash is still under investigation, police said.
