Teen Suffers 'Critical Injuries' After Bike Collision In Chatham

The 19-year-old cyclist struck a van traveling west on River Road on Tuesday morning, according to Chatham Township Police.

CHATHAM, NJ — A 19-year-old Chatham male on a bicycle struck a 2015 Toyota Sienna merging onto Southern Boulevard from River Road on Tuesday morning, according to Chatham Township Police Lt. Brad Hayworth.

The township resident, who has not been publically named by police, was taken to Morristown Medical Center after suffering "critical injuries," Hayworth said.

A 49-year-old Summit woman was driving a 2015 Toyota Sienna merging onto Southern Boulevard from River Road when the 19-year-old cyclist "crossed into the vehicle's lane of travel and struck the van," according to police.

Police were called to the scene at 6:37 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28.

No summons was issued at the scene of the accident, which is still under investigation, Hayworth said.
