Teenager Struck By Backhoe in Chatham: Police

Police said the teenager was walking to school when he was hit by the backhoe.

CHATHAM, NJ — A teenager was walking to school on Tuesday when he was hit by a backhoe on school grounds, Chatham Borough police said.

Police say Adam Boothby, 33, from Gillette, was driving the backhoe in the Chatham Middle School parking lot and was attempting to drive west onto Main Street when he hit the teen. The 14-year-old boy did not fall down, lose consciousness, or complain he was injured, police said, and continued on his way to school.

Boothby called 911 immediately, police said, and told police he did not see the teen and stopped as soon as he hit him.
