In mid-March, two Madison YMCA Mariner swimmers traveled to Lancaster, PA to compete in the YMCA 13 and over NJ State Swim Championships
Given that States is comprised of the best YMCA swimmers in the state, it is one of the most competitive of meets. The competition was fierce but both of these young women represented the Madison YMCA Mariners well, pulling through with best times and impressive finishes.
Hannah Corcoran, one of the team’s best breastrokers, pulled out a strong performance in her favorite breastroke event. Corcoran swam the 100 Breast, placing 36th overall with a best time of 1:13.24.
Emma Danzo swam the 200, 500, and 1000 freestyle events. In the 200 Freestyle she placed 38th. In the 500 freestyle event, she placed 19th with a time of 5:30.92.In the grueling 1000 yard freestyle (40 laps), Danzo pushed to the finish in 11:14:61, breaking her own team record and taking 9th place overall.Danzo first broke the Madison YMCA Mariners’ 13/14 girls team record for the 1000 freestyle at YMCA Silvers Championships. The record, previously set by Katie McDonough in 2001, was 11:35, and at the YMCA Silvers competition, Danzo smashed it with a time of 11:20.08. She then bested her own record yet again by dropping nearly six seconds at States.
