Two New Police Officers In Chatham Borough

Kyle W. Czerniak and Howard 'Reid' Craig were sworn in Monday.

CHATHAM, NJ - Kyle W. Czerniak and Howard 'Reid' Craig took the alternative path separately, but arrived together at the Chatham Borough Council meeting Monday and left as probationary officers in the police department.

According to officials, after considering all interested and qualified candidates, Chief of Police Brian Gibbons determined Czerniak and Craig were the best-qualified candidates and recommended that they be hired as a Probationary Police Officer for the Borough of Chatham Police Department, at a salary of $52,466.54. The salary will be prorated for 2019.

Both officers were approved under resolution #19-112 and were sworn in Tuesday.

Craig attended the Morris County Police Academy through the alternate route program, while Czerniak went through the Camden County Police Academy graduating in 2018 and 2017 respectively. The Alternate Route Program is a program by which a candidate pays his or her own way through the Police Academy. Upon Completion of the Basic Course for Police Officers, an Alternate Route Program graduate has three years to get hired as a police officer in the State of New Jersey.
