American Diabetes Association Alert Day is Tuesday, March 22

On American Diabetes Association Alert Day, Tuesday, March 22, the Madison Area YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) will offer type 2 diabetes risk assessments to help people determine if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

Assessments will take place at no charge on Tuesday, March 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Madison Area YMCA located at 111 Kings Road in Madison. No registration is necessary. Y membership is not required. Please bring a state or government-issued photo ID for entry into the facility.

Did you know? The number of type 2 diabetes cases continues to grow, fueled in part by a continued rise in the rate of obesity. Excess weight and inadequate exercise can increase one's risk of developing type 2 diabetes. More than 29 million people in the United States have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. 86 million Americans have prediabetes; but only 10 percent even know they have it. Without changing their lifestyles, 15 to 30 percent of this population will develop Type 2 diabetes within five years.
