Why I'm Supporting Mathiasen and Hay for Chatham Borough Council
Qualified leaders with integrity

I encourage my fellow residents to vote for Jocelyn Mathiasen and Kate Hay to Chatham Borough Council. I have worked alongside Ms. Mathiasen on the Council for nearly 5 years. In that time, I have seen her apply her 20 years of experience in municipal management to modernize and streamline Borough operations, from overseeing the rollout of Granicus software to make meeting agendas and videos easily searchable, to researching the nuts and bolts of automated garbage pickup and making sure the transition from green bags to standard bins was seamless for residents.
I have worked alongside Ms. Hay during the past year when she was appointed in January to fill Mayor Dempsey’s vacant seat on the Council. As a lifelong resident of Chatham Borough, a graduate of Chatham High School, a local business owner, and swim coach at the Madison YMCA, her firsthand knowledge of the Chatham schools, youth sports, local businesses and local organizations have been instrumental in providing context for issues facing the Council and the right relationships to move projects forward. With Ms. Hay’s help on the Board of Health, Chatham is set to earn its first Gold Star in Health from Sustainable Jersey, which will help us bring additional grant money to the Borough.
In addition to their professional qualifications, I support Ms. Mathiasen and Ms. Hay to represent our residents because I trust them to always make decisions with the best interests of Chatham at top of mind. On hot button issues like our affordable housing obligations, individual Council members and residents at large hold a spectrum of opinions on the best path forward for the Borough. Tough decisions require thoughtful Council members who will listen to residents and to one another, and factor in our quality of life and our legal and fiscal responsibilities. My fellow Council members are volunteers who do this work out of love for our community. I have full confidence that both Ms. Mathiasen and Ms. Hay will act with integrity and will be motivated solely by what they truly believe is best for our community. Please elect them to Chatham Borough Council on November 5.
