6 New Coronavirus Cases Identified Among Cherry Hill Children

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Nearly 40 children in Cherry Hill have tested positive for the coronavirus over the last month, according to numbers provided by Camden County officials.

On Tuesday, Camden County officials announced 10 new cases of the coronavirus in Cherry Hill, including six among children. Since July 21, there have been 39 cases identified among children who have either been listed as juveniles or “in their 10s” by the Camden County Health Department.

The most recent numbers included four boys and two girls older than 10. None of the deaths in Cherry Hill since the beginning of the pandemic have involved children. Statewide, three children have died after testing positive for the coronavirus.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association, there was a 40 percent increase in pediatric coronavirus cases nationwide in the last two weeks of July, with nearly 100,000 testing positive in that time.

During the same period, there was an approximately 10 percent increase in pediatric coronavirus cases in New Jersey, according to the report. In addition to the new cases among children, new cases were diagnosed among two Cherry Hill men in their 40s and two township women, one in her 20s and one in her 40s. Trace investigations are underway in all new cases.

Overall in Cherry Hill, there were 1,253 cases of the coronavirus in Cherry Hill with 163 confirmed deaths as of Tuesday. In Camden County, there were 9,457 cases of the coronavirus with 551 confirmed deaths. There were 27 new cases reported countywide on Tuesday.

According to the Camden County Department of Health, there are 1,342 confirmed cases among residents at the county's long-term care facilities, with 313 deaths. Another 533 cases were reported among staff members, with three deaths.
