MEDFORD LAKES, NJ — A man was charged in two cases of sexual misconduct at the Revive Day Spa on Stokes Road, Medford Township Police said.
Chan Chung, 55, and the only male employee, faces two counts of criminal sexual contact stemming from reports detailed by two different customers.
According to court records, the first report was filed on or around Feb.28 by a woman who said she booked an appointment through the official phone number of the business.
When she arrived, she was escorted back to a massage room by a woman and left there alone. She proceeded to undress to just her underwear and got under a towel provided by the staff.
Chung then came in and began the massage, first with the woman on her stomach, and then on her back while staying covered by the towel from her breasts to her lower legs.
After she thought the massage was done, the woman sat up to rub her hips. Chung then proceeded to do it for her, and the woman felt something brush up against her vagina.
She then saw Chung's face rising between her legs, before asking her if it felt good.
After she chose not to answer, he moved his hands up her stomach to below her breasts and pulled the sheet down.
After exposing her, he pinched both of her nipples with his fingers and asked her if she liked it.
She again did not answer.
After identifying Chan as the suspect and a Honda Civic registered to him in the parking lot, detectives obtained consent from the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office to intercept a phone call between the woman and Chung.
On the call, she asked him why he pinched her nipples at the end of the massage. He replied that he did not mean to do that, told her that he is married, and apologized numerous times.
Detectives were on site conducting surveillance during the call and watched Chung leave in his Honda after it finished.
In the second report filed on or around March 2, a woman booked a massage through the business and was escorted to a room where she undressed to just her underwear.
She laid face down and covered herself with a "see-through and inadequate" sheet given to her by staff, according to her report.
The woman said she did not know her masseuse was going to be a man, and was given no warning that her upper legs and buttocks were going to be touched.
After flipping onto her back, Chung told her he was a chiropractor and could fix an old shoulder injury she had.
He then continued to massage the front of her body in the stomach area without warning in a matter that "is not typical for the service," according to the complaint.
Chung then moved his hands up without warning and grabbed both of her breasts through the sheet and began to shake them.
He then said the massage was done and left the room.
Detectives again received permission to intercept a phone call between the woman and Chung, in which she asked him why he grabbed her breasts.
Chung replied that it was part of the job and was not intentional. He also repeated to the second woman that he is married and apologized numerous times.
Detectives were again on scene conducting surveillance during the call and spotted Chung's car in the business parking lot.
Authorities also learned that there were employees of the spa living inside the business.
An imminent hazard was then issued for violations of the uniform fire code.
Patch has reached out to Chung's legal team, and is yet to hear back.
