CAMDEN, NJ — A 31-year-old man was sentenced after he robbed convenience stores around South Jersey to pay for motels as he sexually abused a child, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office said.
Bobbyjean Orak, of Philadelphia, was sentenced to 27 years in jail and a lifetime of supervised release after he pleaded guilty to transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, interstate travel with intent to engage in a sexual act with a minor, enticement of a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity, and the production and possession of child pornography.
In February 2022, Orak initially disguised his age and gender, and started an online relationship with an 11-year-old girl.
The relationship turned sexual, and Orak received child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of the minor.
In messages together, he used graphic detail to describe the sex acts he wanted to do to the girl.
At the same time, Orak tried to convince other minors online to send him sexually explicit photos and videos of themselves.
In some cases, Orak blackmailed the children, officials said.
In July 2024, he orchestrated a plan for the girl to leave her home in Philadelphia in the middle of the night and took her to New Jersey.
They then moved between multiple hotels to escape law enforcement while Orak sexually exploited the child and kept her isolated from family and friends.
He did this, authorities said, to reduce the chance that police would find them.
In order to fund their time on the run, he robbed gas stations and tried to rob others throughout Burlington County, including in Evesham and Delran.

After a month-long search, Orak and the girl were found at a hotel in Galloway where FBI agents and local authorities arrested him.
The girl was brought safely home to her family that evening.
Detectives found more than 1,000 CSAM photos and videos showing the girl and other minors on Orak's cellphone and online accounts.
"There is no greater duty than protecting children from those who seek to exploit them," U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer said. "For years, the defendant groomed a vulnerable child."
