ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — A Camden man was found guilty on Thursday after he shot a man along Florida Avenue in 2024, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.
Ricardo Berrios, 40, was convicted by a jury on numerous charges, including first-degree attempted murder, first-degree maintaining a narcotics production facility, and second-degree possession of a handgun without a permit.
On July 5, 2024, Atlantic City Police responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding a shooting in the Unit South Block of Florida Avenue.
Antoyane McCall was found after he was shot multiple times in the abdomen and arm. He was taken to the Trauma Unit of the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Division for surgeries and survived.
According to officials, Berrios shot McCall on the sidewalk after the two had a fistfight the evening before.
Police arrested Berrios at the Downbeach Inn on warrants connected to different cases a few hours after the shooting occurred.
He was carrying heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine at the time.
Ammunition was gathered from inside the motel room where Berrios was staying, along with evidence that he was using the space to make cocaine, authorities added.
The handgun used in the shooting had already been recovered in Atlantic City on July 18, 2024.
When he carried out these crimes, Berrios was on pre-trial monitoring Level 3+ from Mercer County and had pending charges in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, and Mercer Counties.
His record also shows six earlier indictable convictions, four parole violations, one violation of probation, and two active Domestic Violence Restraining Orders.
Berrios was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility ahead of a Dec. 15 sentencing of a potential maximum of two life terms in jail.
