Attempted Armed Carjacking Outside Cherry Hill Walmart; 3 Teens Charged: Police

1 of the suspects displayed a handgun as the trio demanded the victim to leave the vehicle, authorities said.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Three teens attempted an armed carjacking Monday night outside Walmart in Cherry Hill, police said. But the victim drove away unhurt.

Police responded to the incident at about 11:20 p.m. for a report of an attempted carjacking in the Route 38 store's parking lot. The victim told officers that three males quickly approached her driver's door while she sat inside the vehicle.

They demanded she exit, and one of them displayed a handgun in his waistband, police said. The victim drove away and immediately notified law enforcement.

Arriving patrol units found the teens in the back of the shopping center and took them into custody. Police say they discovered a handgun close to the suspects through a K-9 search.

Police identified the suspects as a 13- and 15-year-old from Camden and a 14-year-old Pennsauken resident. The resulting charges included carjacking, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a firearm by a minor.
