Bike Thefts Increase This Time Of Year, Cherry Hill Cops Say
The police department also offers several tips to keep your bike and your family members' bikes from being stolen.
CHERRY HILL, NJ — The return to warm weather also means a return to people riding their bikes.
"Unfortunately, it is that time of year again where we begin to see an increase in bike thefts," the Cherry Hill Police Department recently said.
To lessen the chances of your bike or a family members bike from being stolen, the police department offers these tips:

- "Always lock your bike," even if you will only be away from it for a short period of time.
- Write down your bike's serial number (usually found by the bike's crank) and keep it in a safe place.
- Snap a picture of your and your family members' bikes.
- Use a U-lock rather than a cable lock, since the latter lock can be easily cut through with cable cutters or a saw.
- Affix bikes to "secure, fixed" objects.
There have been at least seven bike thefts in Cherry Hill thusfar in 2022, according to the police department. In 2018, there were 43 such thefts, police said. In 2019, there were 29; in 2020, there were 22; and in 2021, there were 26, police added.
