UPDATE: Arson Arrest In South Jersey Fire That Injured 5 Children: Police

Five children and two adults were hurt in a fierce New Jersey fire that had people jumping out of windows, spreading to 8 houses, police say

One person has been arrested in connection with a fire that injured five children and two adults early Friday morning, authorities said. The fire had people jumping out of windows, authorities and eyewitnesses said.

It started after 4:30 a.m. Friday on the 800 block of Haddon Avenue, quickly spread to neighboring homes, according to 6abc.

About eight homes that housed apartments were damaged in the blaze. Police said seven people - five kids and two adults - were taken to Cooper Medical Center to be treated for smoke inhalation and checked out for other injuries, according to NBC Philadelphia. Police suspect the fire was set deliberately, and one person was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

About 26 people were displaced. The flames reached six rowhouses before the fire was brought under control, according to the reports.
