'Cake Boss' Bakery Closes, New Restaurants Arriving: South Jersey Business Brief

SOUTH JERSEY — A decade of desserts has ended, with "Cake Boss"-famous Carlo's Bake Shop closing its South Jersey bakery. Despite the bittersweet departure, more dining options are on their way to the region, including a Philly-famous Italian bakery and some national chains expanding their footprint in the Garden State.

"Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro's bakery in South Jersey has permanently closed. Carlo's Bake Shop opened a decade ago in Marlton Square, expanding Valastro's baked-good business footprint as he starred on reality show "Cake Boss." Read more on Patch.
Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers Expected To Open Soon In Cinnaminson

Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is getting closer to opening in Cinnaminson. The retro-themed restaurant is on track to open in early November, barring any unforeseen delays, a Freddy's spokesperson told Patch. But an opening date hasn't been determined. Freddy's has hundreds of locations around the nation, including three in New Jersey. Read more on Patch.
Longtime Philly Bakery Opens Haddonfield Location
Cacia's Bakery, a longtime Italian bakery in Philadelphia, has a new spot in Haddonfield. Cacia's has operated in South Philly for more than 70 years, specializing in Italian bread and rolls, Stromboli, and homemade pies, cakes and cannolis. The bakery also has a few South Jersey locations with deli items and specialty hoagies. Read more on Patch.
Lazy Dog Restaurant Approved
Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar, a chain of family-friendly eateries with a Rocky Mountain theme, received the go-ahead to build a restaurant in the Moorestown-Mount Laurel area. Getting it ready will take some time, as the defunct Tex-Mex restaurant will get demolished. Lazy Dog estimates a late 2025 opening, a spokesperson told Patch. Read more on Patch.
