Camden Catholic Wrestlers Draw Seeds for State Tournament

From the bottom of the bracket to No. 2 overall, the Irish wrestlers begin their quest Friday in Atlantic City.

Five Camden Catholic wrestlers will have five divergent paths to an individual championship in Atlantic City this weekend.

From lightest to heaviest, the outlook for the Irish wrestlers:

  • Tyler McBride, seeded 24th overall at 113 pounds, faces Jefferson Township’s Bryan Damon, the No. 3 seed, in the first round, with No. 14 Bobby Jordan waiting as a possible second-round opponent.
  • Mark McCormick, the 16th seed overall at 126 pounds, will get a first-round bye, thanks to his region title, but won’t have it easy after that. He faces David McFadden of DePaul Catholic, the top seed in the weight class, in the second round. While Camden Catholic and DePaul wrestled in the team state finals, McCormick bumped up to 132, making this the first head-to-head matchup for the two.
  • T.J. Miller, the No. 2 seed overall at 145 pounds, also gets a first-round bye, and will take on Amir George, of Hackensack, the 17th seed in the tournament.
  • Chad Walsh, the No. 3 seed overall at 152 pounds, is the third Irish wrestler with a bye in the opening round. He’ll face either Brett Donner, of Wall, or Joe Grello, of Bergen Catholic, in the second round.
  • Jeff Miller, the No. 5 seed overall at heavyweight, will go against Toms River South’s Marvin Hayden, the 24th seed overall in the weight class.
