Camera Captures Woman Stealing $1K Bird From South Jersey Pet Store

PENNSAUKEN, NJ — A local pet store is asking for the public's help identifying a woman who was captured on camera stealing a bird worth $1,000, according to the business and a report citing police.

According to a post on social media, the sun conure parrot was taken from Value Pet Center, located in the 7900 block of South Route 130. An NBC10 Philadelphia report citing police said the theft happened between 2-3 p.m. Thursday.

Surveillance video from the business captured the woman removing the bird from its cage before leaving the store without paying for it.

Pennsauken police told NBC10 the bird was worth nearly $1,000.

"We are unsure if she has the appropriate enclosure to care for the bird, and we hope it does not come to harm while in her possession," the business wrote. "We kindly request her to return the bird to the store."

Police told NBC10 the woman was likely in her 30s with red hair and a medium build. She had a tattoo on her upper right arm and was wearing glasses, a white sleeveless top, blue jean pants, and beige shoes at the time of theft.
