Cardiothoracic Surgeon Joins Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center

Cardiothoracic surgeon Charles Stivala, DO, recently joined the medical staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center.

Dr. Stivala comes to Lourdes from Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton PA, where he served as Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Prior to that, Dr Stivala was in private practice in Scranton, PA.

Dr Stivala preformed his thoracic surgical residency at State University of New York in Brooklyn, where he was chief resident. He performed his general surgery residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey

Dr Stivala preforms all aspects of adult cardiac surgery, including arterial coronary artery bypass and valve repair and replacement. He has a dedicated interest in minimally invasive heart surgery.

Board-certified in cardiothoracic surgery, Dr Stivala has additional training in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and peripheral endovascular interventions.

Dr. Stivala research has been published in medical journals such as the Journal of Thoracic Surgery.
