Cherry Hill Company Named Top Employer By Forbes

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Cherry Hill-based ESS is one of the top employers in the country, according to recent rankings released by Forbes. The rankings include 500 companies that have more than 5,000 employees. Twenty companies on the list are based in New Jersey.

ESS ranked 116th nationally and fourth in New Jersey. The company provides substitute teachers, including long-term substitutes, to local school districts. It also fills permanent school support positions such as paraprofessionals and secretaries.

"We have the resources to provide assignment-specific training to our staff, as well as a continuous level of guidance that districts generally cannot accomplish through self-operation," the company says on its website.

America's best employer for 2018 is a company that employs thousands of Americans but is headquartered in France, according to Forbes' annual rankings of the best employers in the country. Princeton-based NRG Energy was seventh in the country and topped the list of New Jersey businesses.

The rankings of America's best large employers placed tire manufacturer Michelin at the top of the list while the grocery chain Trader Joe's took the No. 2 spot and Google came in at No. 3.

Forbes partnered with market research company Statista to compile the list. Statista surveyed 30,000 people, asking respondents to rate how likely they'd be to recommend their employer to others, Forbes explains. Respondents were also asked to nominate organizations outside of their own, according to Forbes.

Michelin climbed 33 spots on the list to claim the top ranking for 2018 and is the only non-American company on the list. Forbes says that the company offers a "purpose-driven career" and advancement opportunities that enable employees to have long careers within the organization.
