Cherry Hill District Gets High Marks, But School Ratings Vary: Report

See which institutions Niche graded highest (and lowest) in Cherry Hill's school system.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Cherry Hill has Camden County's second-best school system, according to Niche's 2024 Best Schools and Districts. But the school-rankings platform rates some of the district's institutions higher than others.

The rankings released this week place the Cherry Hill Township School District at 78th out of 245 in New Jersey. Overall, Cherry Hill schools earned an A-minus — a higher mark than any district in the county besides Haddonfield's, which scored an A-plus.

The Niche.com rankings, which have been out for the past nine years, compare K–12 schools and districts across the United States. The website combines input from current students, alumni and parents with hard data from sources including the U.S. Department of Education.

Here's how Niche graded the Cherry Hill district:

  • sports: B
  • resources and facilities: C-
  • diversity: A-
  • college prep: A+
  • administration: C+
  • food: C-

Niche also evaluated each of Cherry Hill's schools, with grades ranging from B to A for each institution.

South of Route 70, eight of 11 schools received an A-minus or higher, with A grades for Cherry Hill High School East and Joseph D. Sharp Elementary getting A's.

But north of Route 70, six of seven schools scored marks in the B range, with only J.F. Cooper Elementary getting an A-minus.

Niche didn't grade Cherry Hill Alternative High School.

Niche said its rankings were created to provide families with valuable information—both quantitative and qualitative—on schools in their area or in a neighborhood they’re not familiar with yet.

Niche's rankings differ from others that rely almost exclusively on test scores and academic performance in that they also include input from students, alumni and parents, as well as quantitative data from sources such as the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate teachers, resources and facilities.
