Cherry Hill East Alum Takes Over Women's Volleyball Program at Rowan College at Gloucester County

Rebecca Brown led Cherry Hill East to a state title as a sophomore.

Cherry Hill, NJ -- A 2008 Cherry Hill High School East graduate has been named women’s volleyball coach at Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC), the college announced.

Rebecca Brown takes over a team that posted a 6-8 record last season under former coach Anthony Carpenter. Her immediate goals are to develop the players on her current roster, and to implement a formula for long-term success.

“It’s really exciting to take over the RCGC program,” said Brown, who helped Cherry Hill East to a Group 4 state championship with a 20-4 record as a sophomore. “We have a lot of enthusiasm among our players. I’m always looking for students who are natural athletes – I’m confident I can develop our returning players and teach the game to students new to the game. We’re going to lay a strong foundation and have a lot of long-term success.”

At Rutgers-Camden, she played outside hitter for coach Matt Dever for close to three seasons. Brown led the Scarlet Raptors to a berth in the NJAC finals in 2012, and was the team’s MVP.

Her 2012 team posted a 24-8 overall record, a program record for single season wins. She concluded her career among the school’s top five all-time leaders in digs (956), kills (516), and service aces (133). She graduated in December 2012 with a degree in psychology.

The Roadrunners open their 2016 season on Aug. 30 at Lehigh Carbon County College.
