Cherry Hill East Student Earns C-Span Honors For Documentary

Madeline Browne won an award for her documentary about texting and driving.

A Cherry Hill East High School student has been crowned the winner of C-Span's Student Cam Competition, nj.com reports. The sophomore's documentary "Driving Under the Influence (of Cell Phones) won a $1,500 grand prize.

Madeline Bowne, 16, emerged from a field of 2,335 entries because her film about texting and driving a "well-rounded look at the topic" and introduces the other side of the issue, according to the report.

Bowne found inspiration from her Driver's Education class, according to the report. She has been making documentaries since she was in eighth grade when she made a documentary about math education. She's also made films about the 19th Amendment and women's suffrage, according to the report.
