Cherry Hill Fire Department Takes Honors in Hoagie Building Contest

The fire department defeated the police department in the contest held to mark the grand opening of Wawa on Route 38.

The Cherry Hill Fire Department recently earned a trophy for their hoagie-making skills.

Members of the Cherry Hill Police Department competed against members of the fire department in a hoagie-building contest to mark the opening of the new Wawa on Route 38 on Friday.

Teams of five were challenged to make as many hoagies as possible in three minutes.

Firefighters Stephen Marsh, Tim Shannon, Jim Aleski, Al DiTore, and Rob Luft represented the winning team from the fire department.

Officers Ed Williams, Jeff Ruttler, Ryan Johnstone, Anthony Amato and Ryan Del Campo represented the police department in the contest, in which both departments earned $1,000 for a charity of their choice.

The fire department dedicated their funds to members supported Tony’s KIDS, a charity supporting pediatric cancer named in memory of retired CHFD Firefighter Anthony “Tony” Sambucini, according to the fire department’s Facebook page.

The police dedicated their funds to the Cherry Hill Food Pantry to assist local families in need, according to the police department’s Facebook page.
