CHERRY HILL, NJ — Trey Brown was becoming increasingly more aware of violence in his community, and knew something had to be done. As a 13-year-old, though, there wasn’t much he could do. He made the most of what he had.

As an attempt to encourage peers in a positive manner, Brown used his leftover birthday money to create a meaningful clothing brand to inspire youth all over the world — providing an opportunity to stay off the streets and work towards a common goal.

The Delaware County native invested a portion of the money he received on his 12th birthday to start up the clothing brand SPERGO, according to WHYY. The name comes from his appreciation of sports and personal heroes.

He started with 16 Jerzee brand shirts that sold out in a week, according to the report. It has grown from a collection of black, blue and red shirts bearing the logo to a luxury clothing and active wear brand that sells everything from sweatsuits, cold weather jackets and statement head bands.

“Trey Brown is an aspiring entrepreneur who simultaneously preaches a message of courage and strength,” said Lisa Wolstromer, Senior Marketing Director at the Cherry Hill Mall, which is hosting a 3-day SPERGO pop-up event this weekend. “SPERGO has sold products nationally and internationally to consumers who want to feel inspired and powerful — and we’re thrilled to add this dynamic pop-up tenant to the Cherry Hill Mall during the holiday season. Shoppers will have a chance to buy a high-quality product, and feel good in doing so.”

SPERGO will be located next to Macy’s Court for three consecutive days:

  • December 20 (8:00am — 11:00pm);
  • December 21 (7:00am — 11:00pm); and
  • December 22 (7:00am — 11:00pm).

“Knowing SPERGO will launch as a pop-up store in the Cherry Hill Mall is a surreal feeling,” Brown said. “This is a dream come true — and I’m excited for the local community to see my clothing line first-hand. We offer the best fabrics, unique designs, and a variety of products for men, women and children.”

SPERGO has sold more than 7,000 articles of clothing in the last year. Celebrities like Meek Mill, Tierra Whack, Da Baby, Sean Combs, Eric Thomas and Ed Mylett can be found sporting SPERGO gear or encouraging the young entrepreneur on social media.
