Cherry Hill Rugby Team Competes For Playoff Spot Saturday

The South jersey Rugby Club will play North Penn for the final spot in the MAC playoffs at home on Saturday.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — The South Jersey Rugby Football Club (SJRFC), based in Cherry Hill, will compete for a spot in the MAC Division Three North playoffs at home on Saturday.

The game is part of a doubleheader in which four clubs will determine their path to a potential national championship.

Both matches will take place on Saturday, April 15, at the SJRFC Devils’ home field located at 498 East Evesham Road.

At noon, the Devils (7-2-1) will face off against the North Penn Rugby Football Club (8-3-1) out of Hatfield, Pennsylvania. The winner will earn the eighth and final seed in the MAC Division Three North playoffs.

Following that match, at about 2 p..m., Lehigh Valley Rugby Football Club (10-0-0) out of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania will square off against Blackthorn Rugby Football Club (9-3-0) out of Horsham, Pennsylvania, for the MAC North championship. The winner will also earn the No. 2 seed in the MAC playoffs. The loser will get the number five seed.

Three teams will advance to the MAC quarterfinals on April 22, with a champion eventually being crowned on May 6 in Richmond, Virginia.

The MAC champion will then advance to the USA Rugby Men’s Division Three national elite eight and final four weekend May 20 and 21 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The MAC Division Three is split into North, Central and South conferences, which combined contain 36 teams from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, DC and Virginia. Division Three North consists of 13 teams from New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
