Cherry Hill Swears In First Korean Woman Mayor
Susan Shin Angulo was sworn in as the new mayor of Cherry Hill at its reorganization meeting on Thursday.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — More than 300 people came out to see Susan Shin Angulo sworn in as the new mayor of Cherry Hill on Thursday, according to township officials. Angulo is the first Korean-American woman to serve as the mayor of any municipality in New Jersey, according to officials. She stressed her excitement for this opportunity.
“I stand before you as a woman and mother, a first generation college graduate, and an immigrant whose family overcame poverty in pursuit of the American Dream,” Angulo said during Thursday's reorganization meeting at town hall. “I pledge to you that I will work tirelessly and passionately for the people of Cherry Hill.”
Former mayor and former Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Susan Bass Levin swore in council members Michele Golkow and Brian Bauerle to begin new terms in office. Levin also swore in Jennifer Apell for her first term on the seven-member Council.

“We will continue to support public safety initiatives, so that Cherry Hill residents are safe and our community is one where our citizens can thrive,” Angulo said. “We will manage our township budget and our government responsibly, so that we can keep property taxes stable, and operate a transparent, open administration.”
Angulo succeeds Chuck Cahn as Cherry Hill Mayor. Cahn decided not to run for re-election after serving as mayor for eight years. Angulo, a Democrat who relinquished her position as a Camden County Freeholder, defeated Republican Nancy Feller O'Dowd in November's general elections. Before that, she fended off a primary challenge from Progressive Democrat Susan Druceknbrod.
Baurle, Golkow and Appel defeated Republicans Stephen Cohen, Stephen Lever and Mary Ellen Litton, and Libertarian Richard Bowen.
