Cherry Hill West Earns At-Large Bid to Diamond Classic

The Diamond Classic is the unofficial championship tournament of South Jersey baseball.

Cherry Hill, NJ -- The Cherry Hill High School West baseball team is ready to make a run at South Jersey’s unofficial championship.

The Lions (9-4) open the 43rd annual Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic at Washington Township against West Deptford (13-4) on Saturday, 10:30 a.m., according to the Courier Post.

Cherry Hill West earned the fourth at-large bid into the tournament. West Deptford qualified as the first place team in the Colonial Conference Liberty Division.

A total of 16 teams from what is traditionally considered the South Jersey area will compete in the tournament, with 10 teams qualifying because they were in first place in their division at the cutoff date and six other teams qualifying as wild-card teams.

The second round is scheduled for Saturday, May 21. The semifinals and finals are scheduled for Sunday, May 22.
