Cherry Hill West Softball Bounces Back to Highlight Monday Sports

The Lions girls are among several local winners on the day.

Cherry Hill West’s softball team got off a short-term slide in a big way Monday, putting together a monster come-from-behind victory over Camden Catholic.

Down 5-2 heading into the sixth inning, the Lions exploded for six runs behind Brittany Robertson’s two-run single and Sierra Machinski’s 4-for-4 hitting performance. Machinski, Brittany Robertson and Taylor Thompson all had doubles for West. The Lions’ Jamie Robertson, who struck out seven, got the win on the mound.

Phylicia Pellot had a double for the Irish.

Shawnee 3, Cherry Hill East 1

The Cougars’ seventh-inning rally fell short, as Shawnee made the most of three hits and a handful of East errors in the win.

Baseball

Camden Catholic 13, Riverside 2

The Irish got a strong performance from Joe Hahn, who got his first-ever varsity pitching win, as Camden Catholic rolled in five innings over Riverside. Joe Craig and Mike Wheeler each had three hits in the game.

Shawnee 18, Cherry Hill East 3

Boys tennis

East 3, Washington Township 2

East swept at doubles with the teams of Dan Jang and Nikhil Shukla and Greg Frank and Sam Yoon both scoring straight-set victories, and Hank Davis won at first singles to clinch the match.

West 4, Bishop Eustace 1

Girls lacrosse

East 15, Cherokee 10

Caitlin Delaney scored five goals and Taylor Patrizi and Emily Johnson each scored four to lead the Cougars to a win over the Chiefs. East built an 8-5 halftime lead and extended it with seven second-half goals.

Eastern 18, Cherry Hill West 3

West’s Lauren Anderson scored a hat trick, but the Lions couldn’t find any other offense in the loss.

Boys lacrosse

Kingsway 15, Cherry Hill West 4

West scored three goals in the second quarter, but couldn’t keep pace with the Dragons, who lit it up in the first and third quarters to pull away.

Shawnee 18, East 5

Brandon Stern scored a hat trick for the Cougars, who couldn’t make up a 12-3 halftime deficit.

West Deptford 18, Camden Catholic 5

The undefeated Eagles put up six goals before the Irish found the back of the net, and built a 10-4 halftime lead en route to victory.

Boys volleyball

East 2, West 0

The Cougars scored 25-20 and 25-21 victories to take the first matchup of the rivalry.
