Cherry Hill West Wrestling Team Pursues South Jersey Title Friday

Cherry Hill West will host Highland in the championship match, according to nj.com.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — The Cherry Hill High School West wrestling team is one win away from a South Jersey title.

The Lions host Highland in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 4 championship match Friday night, according to nj.com. Cherry Hill West was the No. 1 seed and saw little resistance en route to the championship match.

Cherry Hill West opened with a 50-28 win over No. 8 Moorestown. Five Lions scored pinfall victories in the match, and 138-pound Sean Tyler scored a technical fall.

In the second round, Cherry Hill West dispatched of No. 5 Pennsauken, 43-22. Three Lions scored pinfall victories, and 152-pound Joseph Ummarino scored a technical fall.

Highland entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed, and advanced to the championship with a pair of double-digit victories.

In the first round, Highland defeated No. 6 Hammonton, 42-30. Highland was down by three points before three consecutive pinfalls from Justin Cariss, Mark Hurst and Ronan Nark turned the tide in favor of Highland.

In the semifinals, Highland upset No. 2 Clearview, 40-21. Highland avenged a loss to Clearview from the previous week to advance to their first sectional championship match since 2014.
