Cherry Hill Woman In Her 70s Dies Of Coronavirus

CHERRY HILL, NJ — A Cherry Hill woman in her 70s has died after testing positive for the coronavirus, Camden County officials announced on Thursday. She may be the 85th Cherry Hill resident to die due to the virus, and one of eight new deaths announced in the county on Thursday. One of the new deaths was not attributed to a specific town.

A total of 249 Camden County residents have now died as a result of the coronavirus, 188 of which have been tied to the county’s 56 long-term care facilities, according to the Camden County Department of Health.

The following information is currently available regarding these most recent deaths in Camden County:

• A Cherry Hill woman in her 70s;
• A Collingswood man in his 90s;
• Two Camden men in their 60s;
• A Camden woman in her 70s;
• A Voorhees woman in her 80s;
• A Stratford man in his 90s; and
• A man in his 50s, town unknown.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that eight more members of the Camden County family have succumbed to this terrible virus. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those who have lost a loved one or friend amidst this pandemic,” Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said. “The governor’s recent announcements that beaches in New Jersey will be open, in a limited capacity, by Memorial Day, as well as the resumption of non-essential construction and curbside pickup for retail businesses, is welcome news for thousands of Camden County residents. We are extremely encouraged that the governor and his administration believe these steps to be safe and practical as they take on coronavirus with a science- and data-driven approach. I cannot stress enough that these relaxations will only be successful if we enjoy them while being conscious of the risk that this virus still poses. Please continue to distance yourself from others, wear a face cover or mask, and wash your hands frequently. We are not out of the woods yet, but we can continue making progress if we handle these new opportunities responsibly.”

Eighteen Cherry Hill residents were among 113 new cases of the coronavirus that were announced in the county on Thursday. There are now 5,364 positive cases of coronavirus in Camden County, 1,123 of which have been linked to the county’s nursing homes.

Trace investigations are underway in all new cases. The following information is available about the most recent Cherry Hill cases:

• A man in his 30s;
• A woman in her 30s;
• A woman in her 60s;
• Two women in their 70s;
• Six women in their 80s;
• A girl older than 10;
• A man in his 50s;
• A person in their 60s, sex unspecified;
• Two men in their 60s;
• A man in his 70s; and
• A man in his 80s.
