Cherry Hill Woman In Her 80s Dies Of Coronavirus

CHERRY HILL, NJ — A Cherry Hill woman in her 80s has died after testing positive for the coronavirus, Camden County officials announced on Friday.

As of Friday, there have been 2,870 cases of the coronavirus and 169 deaths in Cherry Hill since the pandemic began., according to numbers provided by the Camden County Department of Health.

She was among 12 new deaths announced in Camden County on Friday. Countywide, 671 residents have now died after testing positive for the coronavirus.

“I am saddened to announce 12 additional deaths caused by COVID-19 in Camden County today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the 35 families who have lost a loved one in just this week alone,” Camden County Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said. “As cases and hospitalizations increase, we are beginning to see an expected increase in fatalities as well. We have to get this surge under control, and do everything in our power to prevent the next one, so that we don’t face any additional loss of life. Please remember to wear a mask, social distance, and avoid all indoor gatherings, including holiday parties.”

In addition to the Cherry Hill woman, the other new Camden County deaths included:

• A Gloucester City woman in her 80s;
• Two Gloucester Township women in their 70s;
• A Gloucester Township man in his 80s;
• A Pennsauken woman in her 80s;
• A Cherry Hill man in his 80s;
• A Camden man in his 60s;
• A Cherry Hill man in his 90s;
• An Audubon man in his 90s;
• A Bellmawr woman in her 80s; and
• A Lawnside man of unknown age.

Twenty Cherry Hill residents were also among the 243 new cases announced in Camden County on Friday. Trace investigations are underway in all new cases. As of Friday, 23,267 Camden County residents have tested positive for the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Department of Health also announced that 1,791 residents in the county's 56 long-term care facilities have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began, and 362 have died. Among staff members at these facilities, 890 cases and three deaths have been reported.
