Driver Charged With Murder In Hit-And-Run That Killed Camden Woman: Prosecutor

The suspect turned herself in days after striking the victim and driving off, authorities said.

CAMDEN, NJ — The driver in a hit-and-run that killed a woman in Camden has been identified and charged with murder, authorities said.

Ajee Williams, 30, of Camden, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Carla Mahan. Williams turned herself in Saturday — three days after fatally striking Mahan and fleeing the scene, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office (CCPO).

Mahan, 41, was struck at about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday around 7th and Tulip streets, authorities said. The Camden resident was pronounced dead at 4:06 p.m. at Cooper University Hospital.

Mahan was a hardworking, single mother of three, according to Fox 29 News Philadelphia.

The circumstances that led to Williams getting charged with murder weren't immediately clear. Patch contacted authorities and will update as more information becomes available.
