Final Dismore Awards to be Handed Out at Cherry Hill West Thursday Morning
The awards have been distributed for 17 years in honor of a gifted math student who died of a brain tumor.
After 17 years of awarding scholarships to mathematics students graduating from Cherry Hill High School West, Mrs. Eleanor A. Cheney will present the last of the âDinsmore Scholarshipsâ to five deserving West students this Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 8 a.m. in the Cherry Hill West Library.
Mrs. Cheney set up the scholarship fund in memory of her son, Jon Dinsmore, a 1964 graduate of Cherry Hill High School West (then called simply, âCherry Hill High Schoolâ), died of complications from a brain tumor in 1996, at the age of 49.
During his time in high school, Dinsmore was described as âgifted with numbersâ and found a mentor in one of his math teachers, the late Richard D. Elder, Sr. Dinsmore went on to study engineering at Colorado State University and later founded Dinsmore Construction Company, a builder of private homes.Â
