Gun Fired Inside Hospital In Cherry Hill: Prosecutor

There was an incident between an officer and an in-custody patient who was brought in for an evaluation, says a hospital spokesperson.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — A gun was fired Saturday morning inside Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office (CCPO).

Nobody was injured, and there is no threat to the safety of patients or visitors at the hospital, the agency said.

The CCPO is investigating the matter and declined to offer further details. But a spokesperson for Jefferson Health said there was an incident Saturday between a police officer and an in-custody patient inside the emergency room.

Law enforcement brought the patient to the hospital for a medical evaluation, said Jefferson spokesperson Nicole Pensiero.

"No patients or staff were harmed during this event and patient care remained uninterrupted," Pensiero told Patch via email. "The patient was seen by medical staff and was discharged back to police custody."

Action News reported that the patient, brought by a Hi-Nella officer, had grabbed the officer's gun and started firing shots. Authorities have not confirmed this.
