Interim Superintendent Set For Appointment In Cherry Hill Schools Amid Successor Search

With Dr. Joseph Meloche set to leave the district soon, the board of ed will vote Tuesday on his temporary replacement.

Corrections: The board will vote on Dr. Kwame Morton's appointment as superintendent. He became the principal of Cherry Hill High School West in September 2013 before taking his current role in September 2021.


CHERRY HILL, NJ — With the outgoing superintendent set to depart the district soon, the Cherry Hill school board will vote Tuesday on an interim replacement.

Dr. Kwame Morton, an administrator for Cherry Hill Public Schools, has been named the candidate for the district's acting-superintendent role. The Board of Education will vote on his appointment during Tuesday's meeting.

Superintendent Dr. Joseph N. Meloche announced in March that he would leave the Cherry Hill district for the same position in Media, Pennsylvania's school district. Meloche will leave the Cherry Hill district June 30.

Once Meloche's departure became imminent, the school board began a search for an interim superintendent to assume the role when Meloche departs. School officials also planned a national search for a permanent replacement to lead one of New Jersey's largest school districts.

Morton serves as Cherry Hill's assistant superintendent of PreK-12 and curriculum and instruction. He joined Cherry Hill Public Schools in 2008 as principal of Joyce Kilmer Elementary School. Morton became the principal of Cherry Hill High School West in September 2013 before taking his current role in September 2021.
