Camden Catholic Wrestling in Finals; West Eliminated
Camden Catholic will compete for a South Jersey title, while West saw its season come to an end.

The No. 1 teams in the South Jersey wrestling sectionals made a major statement Wednesday night. For Camden Catholic fans, that statement was a welcome one. For fans of Cherry Hill West, it signaled the end of a historic season.
No. 1 Camden Catholic advanced to the Non-Public B championship with a 69-6 demolition of No. 4 St. Joseph.
The Irish got six pins and six forfeits to pull away for the easy victory. The pins came from Tyler McBride (113), Mark McCormick (126), Alex Smyth (132), Nick Minkiewicz (138), Chad Walsh (152) and Collin Pierlot (160).

Camden Catholic will take on No. 2 Holy Cross in Friday’s championship. Each team is well under .500, and will be viewed as a significant underdog against the Irish.
In Group 3 action, Cherry Hill West saw its playoff run come to an end at the hands of No. 1 Toms River South. The Lions carried over plenty of momentum from their thrilling 30-29 win over Lacey but were simply no match for South in a 57-9 defeat.

James Potts provided the best moment of the night for West, pinning his opponent at 195 pounds in 3:17. Teammate Connor Rogovich recorded West’s only other win, scoring a 9-4 decision at 138.
The Lions accomplished a major goal simply by qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in program history. By hosting—and winning—a playoff match, they set a new bar for the program.
Meanwhile, Toms River South gets set for a finals showdown against No. 2 Timber Creek.
