Japanese Restaurant Seeks To Add Bar In Cherry Hill

The longtime eatery obtained a liquor license from a Japanese restaurant that has since closed.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Mikado Japanese Restaurant in Cherry Hill is seeking the Zoning Board's approval to add a full-service bar.

Mikado has operated for 25 years. The restaurant has served alcohol since late 2024, when it acquired a liquor license from Raku AYCE Sushi & Japanese Buffet.

Raku AYCE has since closed.

Mikado is now seeking approval from local officials to replace its outdoor-dining patio with a 10-seat bar. A hearing is scheduled for Thursday's Zoning Board meeting.

Mikado intends to enclose its existing outdoor-dining patio, replacing it with a 514-square-foot indoor space with a bar and waiting area.

The restaurant is located in Cherry Hill's Regional Business Zone, where eateries can only seat more than 50 if their property is at least 10 acres. Mikado's lot is only 0.7 acres, so the plan will require a use variance from the Zoning Board.

Cherry Hill's Zoning Board is set to meet virtually at 7 p.m. Thursday. Hearings will begin at 7:30 p.m. Click here for instructions on how to access the remote meeting.
