VOORHEES, NJ — Three patient care technicians at Jefferson Health hospitals in South Jersey are being recognized for going above and beyond for their patients, the health system said.

Maria Giangiulio (4-East/4-West – Jefferson Stratford Hospital), Ikea McCants (2-East – Jefferson Stratford Hospital), and Katarena Paez (Emergency Department - Jefferson Washington Township Hospital) recently received Beyond Expectations of Excellence (BEE) Award for Extraordinary Caregivers.

"Giangiulio, of Sewell, was nominated for promoting a positive experience by helping a patient see her grandchild in the lobby — unable to visit due to COVID-19 guidelines — and providing special treats during her holiday hospital stay," Jefferson Health said in a news release. "McCants, of Gloucester City, was praised for treating others with dignity and respect and for extraordinary efforts to help her nursing colleagues by administering patient care when available. Paez, of Vineland, was recognized for her empathy and compassion to stay beyond her shift to help move an Emergency Department patient to the Intensive Care Unit so he could receive care closer to his wife, who was receiving end-of-life care."
