Lourdes Named a Five-Star Recipient by Healthgrades

Medical center recognized for treatment of cardiac, pulmonary, and neuroscience conditions

Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center has achieved five-stars for its performance in the treatment of stroke, heart failure, defibrillator procedures, pacemaker procedures and pneumonia from Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

This is the fourth year in a row (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) that Lourdes has received the award for the treatment of defibrillator procedures; and the second year in a row (2018, 2019) Lourdes has received the award for pacemaker procedures. Lourdes has received the award for pneumonia treatment for the past nine years (2011-2019).

The achievements are part of new findings and data recently released by Healthgrades and featured in the Healthgrades 2019 Report to the Nation.

“It is an honor for our team to have earned these Healthgrades awards,” said Reginald Blaber, MD, MBA, FACC, President, Lourdes Health System. “The distinction reflects our steadfast commitment that patients receive outstanding quality care.

“What’s more, The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit healthcare ratings organization, recently recognized Lourdes as well. Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center earned an ‘A’ from its fall 2018 Hospital Safety Grade. The designation recognizes Lourdes’ efforts in meeting the highest safety standards in the US.

“Both the Healthgrades and Leapfrog recognitions are a testament to Lourdes’ commitment to best practices and safe, patient-centered, quality health care. I thank our team for their diligent work in achieving these national awards.”

Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions. Healthgrades new report demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals regionally and nationally.

A five-star rating indicates that Lourdes’ clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected.

“Clinical quality varies significantly between hospitals, so it’s important for consumers to use information about outcomes to assess where to receive care,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Healthgrades. “A 5-star rating for stroke, heart failure, defibrillator procedures, pacemaker procedures, and pneumonia, showcases the expertise and commitment of Lourdes Burlington to their patients.”

*For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 32 common conditions and procedures, and evaluate outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 15 states. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected) and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories.
