NJ Man Shot Girlfriend, Then Drove Her To The Hospital, Police Say
She jumped out of his car to escape.

GIBBSBORO, NJ — A South Jersey man was found guilty of kidnapping and trying to murder his girlfriend in 2024, the Camden County Prosecutor said.
Akeem B. Morton, 33 of Lindenwold, was convicted after a two-week trial in Superior Court on charges of:
- First-degree kidnapping
- First-degree attempted murder
- Second-degree aggravated assault
- Second-degree certain persons not to have weapons
- Second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose
- Second-degree unlawful possession of weapons
- Third-degree witness tampering
- Fourth-degree aggravated assault
On Dec. 15, 2024, Gibbsboro Police responded to the intersection of Clementon Road and Haddon Avenue for a report of a shooting.

Officers found blood and shell casings on the ground without a victim nearby.
Morton and his girlfriend had been arguing in a car when he drove away without letting her get out. She escaped by jumping out of the car.

Morton shot her multiple times and then put her back in the car, authorities said, before taking her to Jefferson Stratford Hospital.
He was later taken into custody and to the Camden County Correctional Facility.
Morton faces a mandatory term of life in prison under the state's Persistent Offender statute and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 8.
